Even the striking mix between rain and sunshine could not stop the Dental Summer Event, to stay on winning track. More participants then ever gathered at Timmendorfer Strand from the 27th till 30th June 2012 to join the unique combination of beach feeling und high class postgraduate education. Already on the first day it was clear, that even more people were going to visit the Dental Summer event 2012, then in the past years.
The program of the congress at MARITIM Hotel Timmendorfer Strand was bristles with scientific highlights and did not leave anything to be desired for young dentists.
Prof. Alexander Gutowski lectured about “Combined dental prosthesis on natural teeth and implants” and Prof. Edelhoff hold a workshop about “Ceramic restorations- new therapeutic concepts and new material with the use of modern high technology”. At a two-day workshop, Hans- Uwe L. Köhler showed to the participants the best way of communication to the patients under the topic “The patient counseling session- Seminar for the whole team. How to advise your patients in a plausible and more productive way ”. Dr. Thomas Schwenk and Dr. Markus Striegel illuminated together two topics at once- first one “Champions league- the 7 secrets to a successful clinic!” and on the other hand a two-day workshop “Smile design- planning of complex aesthetic reconstruction.” Dr. Paul Weigl was lecturing two days about prosthodontics on implants. Two separate workshops with practical training about composite fillings in the upper front and in molars were hold be Dr. Jörg Weiler. For interested parties who wanted to refresh their knowledge, Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Georg Meyer offered an update on “Functional theory- practice-oriented update”. Last but not least Dr. Gerhard Conzelman together with the Shaolin monk Shi Yan Yan hold a one day introduction to the Shaolin faith with handy tips for body and soul.
In cooperation with the German division of young dentist worldwide (BdZA)and the international advanced education institute (IFG), 250 free participations for two days seminar chosen individually by the participants could be given to last year dental students or young dentist. All of the free tickets were made use of and enjoyed great popularity, therefore a lot of young dentists joined the group of participants at the Dental Summer Event 2012.
Also with bad weather in the first days the atmosphere during dinner and the viewing of the soccer matches was good, as though nobody got annoyed by a few clouds and also the loss of the German football team at the semi-finals was easier to take with the Baltic Sea close by.
With the start of the beach volleyball tournament, which is since last year a stable part of the social program, the clouds vanished and the sun came out rewarding the diligent dentists with great sea weather, which unfortunately went into a big thunderstorm on Friday night. The brave participants of the beach volleyball tournament did not mind it at all and the winners were honored on Saturday after the final match.
One of the highlights was the legendary IFG-Summer-Party on Friday night at the MARITIM Hotel timmendorfer Strand mit the band “Max and Friends”, which fired the party people up.
To celebrate the three-year dedication of the BdZA for the Dental Summer Event another Highlight was scheduled on Saturday night: The 3rd ALUMNI night of the BdZA which took place at the club of the MARITIM hotel. After the f1st ALUMNI night 2010 in Berlin and the 2nd ALUMNI night during the IDS in Cologne, the BdZA was pleased to offer the participants a cool party location and event.
The overall comment to this year’s Dental Summer Event: Success all along the line. The program offered just the right mix between valuable education and relaxed beach atmosphere. The next Dental Summer Event will take place from the 3rd to 6th of July 2013 at the same location. The future participants of next year´s event can already look forward to it- as it can only be even better!
